“USA Projects is a program created by United States Artists (USA), a nonprofit grantmaking and artist advocacy organization that has awarded over $17 million to America’s finest artists in the last six years. USA Projects hosts an online community where artists can post projects for funding and connect with those who love and support artists.
At USA Projects, our goal is to help artists successfully navigate the challenging world of online fundraising for their projects. Our expert team provides educational services, from fundraising 101 to case studies and best practices to project development and outreach support. A total of 75% of all artists who have turned to USA Projects have succeeded in funding their projects. USA Projects offers a patent-pending matching fund program, the only one of its kind, which encourages and leverages contributions to help artists succeed faster. All donations are tax deductible because they simultaneously support artists’ projects and the nonprofit mission of United States Artists: to invest in America’s finest artists and to illuminate the value of artists to society.”

“Creation Grants support the creation of new work by Vermont artists. Applicants to this category must demonstrate that the primary component of their proposal is the funding of time, supplies, facilities (rehearsal or studio), etc. for their work. Projects may be at various stages of completion. There must be strong potential for public presentation of the work either during or after the grant period. Wherever possible, projects should strive to stimulate greater public understanding of the art form.
Examples of fundable projects include:
- A writer who wishes to complete the first draft of a novel and will conduct a series of readings of the new work at local libraries, OR
- A dance ensemble that will choreograph a piece to be available wholly or in part for touring to area presenters.”

Read about the Samsung Challenge:
“New York, NY, July 25, 2012 – Samsung Electronics America, a leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, and the NYTVF, a pioneer of the independent television movement, today announced they will collaborate on a landmark initiative that will provide indie producers and production companies the opportunity to compete for a production budget of $300,000 to create an original short series with accompanying second screen material.
Free the TV Challenge III – “Second Screen Storytellers” is Samsung’s third Free the TV Challenge, following successful competitions in 2010 and 2011. This latest challenge represents the first time Samsung will be working with NYTVF and the indie storytelling community to push the boundaries of the Samsung consumer experience.
The NYTVF will be accepting entries from August 6, 2012 through September 24, 2012. The winning selection will be announced at the 8th annual New York Television Festival, taking place from October 22-27, 2012, in lower Manhattan. The subsequently-created series will then debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2013, after which it will be exclusively distributed via Samsung Smart TVs and Galaxy devices.”

WILL Interactive, Inc. (WILL) follows a corporate philosophy of “doing well by doing good.” A major component of WILL’s business philosophy is the company’s desire to create positive social change through the use of Virtual Experience Immersive Learning Simulations (VEILS®). In that vein, this Challenge is a call for entries for the creation of a VEILS® serious game simulation to address a pressing social issue. To learn more about WILL, Interactive, click [here].
VEILS® is an immersive technology that harnesses the engaging characteristics of game-based video simulations to capture the attention of individuals at a level that leads them to positive action. To learn more about VEILS® serious game simulations, and to view demo segments of VEILS® simulations, click [here].
Each winner of this Challenge will have the social issue identified in his/her/its Entry addressed through the development of a VEILS® game-based video simulation, and will receive, at no cost, the perpetual right to use the simulation. WILL will absorb all product development costs (approximate value = $500,000) to develop the VEILS® simulation. Winning Entrants will receive a royalty if the resulting simulation is commercialized, and organization Entrants will receive co-branding recognition on the simulation.
The winning Entrant(s) must actively participate in product development reviews and provide subject matter expertise for successful development of the winning simulation(s). Additionally, in order to help maximize the positive impact on the widest possible audience, proposals must contain a marketing and distribution plan that describes how the simulation will be disseminated and the Entrant’s prior experience relevant to the marketing and distribution of learning products.

The independent documentary, Close Ties will air Saturday October 22 at 6pm on WDSU (NBC) and Sunday October 23rd at 11:35pm on WDSU (NBC). Syndication coming to other Networks and let’s not forget the festivals!!!
Close Ties: Tying on a New Tradition provides an intimate look at a rites of passage ceremony that connects teenage boys with male role models. The ceremony at this New Orleans barbershop was created by Dr. Andre Perry and Wilbert “Chill” Wilson as a way to strengthen communities struggling with crime, poverty and alarming high school drop out rates. Cultural traditions have been the cornerstone of African American communities for centuries. Close Ties examines the impact of this new tradition and shows us how tying a necktie — an act associated with men who embody professionalism and prestige — can inspire high school boys to commit to a life of achievement and success.
