As usual, I’m looking for free b-roll.  Here are some new sources that I found.

Good Egg Project – has egg production and lower cholesterol footage.

Stamp Out Hunger – has food bank and letter carrier footage

Novozymes – has footage of farms, US & Chinese factories and a woman doing laundry.

Kaplan – shots of students taking the SAT test.

Appearance Release Form Sample

An appearance release allows a person appearing on camera to give permission to the producer to use their image, voice and likeness.  It is recommended to get an appearance release for anyone who is recognizable in your footage.  If you shoot someone walking down the street from behind, you don’t need a release.  If someone down the road recognizes themselves on your footage and wants to complain or worse, you will have this document to prove you were allowed to shoot them.  Minors need to have a guardian sign for them. You can manipulate the document to reflect:

• No cost or fee based
• Distribution platforms
• Time allowed to use the person’s image

I like to get rights for all platforms, in perpetuity.

• The NewsMarket calls itself  “the media’s online source for free video.”  It does seem to have a lot to offer.
• GeoEye 2009 Corporate Broll – a lot of satellite imaging.
• George Washington University has free downloadable b-roll of various happenings on campus.
• National Cancer Institute has free downloadable b-roll of medical scenes.
• Washington University in St. Louis has free downloadable HD footage of its campus and the medical school.
